My First Milestone

This week I have reached my first milestone in the progress of the project – I have started to create the catalogue on CALM. CALM is the collections management software often used in archives to list collections. It is a database that allows records to be linked in a hierarchical manner to create the multilevel finding aid you can use to search for records and information.

CALM is also compatible with ISAD(G), the standard for archival description and includes fields for the title, dates, description, reference, extent (physical description and amount) and level of description of the record among others. So far, I have only added the bare skeleton of entries to make up the structure of the catalogue. As I start cataloguing at item level I will be able to build up the information at the higher levels of the catalogue.
